Processor – It’s All About Speed

Picture
It is an accepted belief that the speed of CPU is the indication of the excellent performance of it. It is not a fully accurate statement or belief. There are a lot of other internal as well as external factors, which is having a say at the matter of performance of the CPU and also the efficiency of the whole system.

The unit used for measuring speed of the working of a Intel Core i7 CPU is MHz. One megahertz is equal to a million cycles per second. This statement does not have the effect that a CPU having more MHZ speed is more efficient. In order to sufficiently explain these factors, more technical knowledge is needed. The performance of the faster processor can be calculated or ascertained in accordance with the quantity of work it does in a single clock cycle. The fastness and efficiency are two distinct factors as far as the computer processors are concerned. For instance, a 1 MHz CPU will be faster than a 2MHz CPU, but the latter option will be more efficient.

The way you use a CPU can greatly change the speed of it. The capacity of the cache memory can improve the performance of the CPU. Cache is the area which keeps the information that has been recently used. It can give a quick access to such information stored there. Therefore, if the computer is having a bigger cache memory, it will show in the performance of the CPU.

The introduction of newer and faster models of processors has tremendously reduced the time needed for doing a specific amount of work. All these processors including the latest i-series in the Intel Core family as well as the AMD models require bigger and faster RAM for their efficient performance. They have a good role in making the functioning of a computer speedier.
